Do you want to become the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven? The world considers power and position as greatness, but Jesus Christ taught an amazing standard. According to Matthew 18, entering the Kingdom of Heaven requires no worldly qualification, but rather a pure and humble heart like that of a little child. While a debate about “who is the greatest?” was happening among the disciples, Jesus placed a child in their midst to teach them how to be free from the traps of ego and comparison. This is not just an example, but an essential condition for spiritual life.
Qualities of a child such as humility, innocence, total dependence, a pure heart, and a forgiving nature are the true signs of spiritual maturity. Many times, we have Bible knowledge, but there is no change in our hearts. We appear religious outwardly, but inwardly we are filled with our own greed and selfishness, just like the rich ruler. The Lord looks at the actual state of the heart, not the outward appearance. Simply saying “I believe” is not enough; true faith always brings a solid transformation in life.
If we cannot give up our hardness and ego to become simple like a child, we cannot experience the blessings of the Kingdom of Heaven. Additionally, Jesus gave a stern warning about how great a sin it is to cause those who are new in faith to stumble. Therefore, let us examine ourselves today: is our heart like a little child before the Lord? Remember, whoever humbles themselves like a child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. True greatness is not in worldly positions, but hidden in simple humility and total trust in the Lord.
