God desires to do a new thing in our lives. Isaiah 43:18-19 clearly states, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” The first condition for seeing God’s new work is “forgetting the past.” Although many believers live in the present, their hearts and souls remain entangled in past wounds, failures, or bitterness. Since the enemy does not know our future, he constantly uses our past as a weapon to stop us from moving forward. In Luke 24, the disciples walking on the road to Emmaus could not recognize the risen Jesus because they were so immersed in the “past event” of His death that they failed to see the “Light of Life” standing right before them.
The work God does is “supernatural.” Just as He made a way through the Red Sea for the Israelites and brought rivers to the desert, He can open new doors in the dry and desolate circumstances of your life.
Jabez’s name meant “pain” or “distress,” but instead of staying stuck in his past identity, he cried out to God. As a result, he became more honorable than his brothers. Your past does not determine your future. Only when you cut the “umbilical cord” of the past can you breathe in new life.
No matter how bitter or painful your past may be, God has a bright and blessed plan for you. Today, surrender all your burdens, hurts, and unforgiveness at the feet of the Lord. When you choose to forget your past and decide to move forward, only then will God’s supernatural grace cause rivers of blessing to flow through your desert-like life. Believe that He has already prepared the way for you.
