Life filled daily with the Spirit

Life filled daily with the Spirit

Speaker: Pastor John Roughton

Living a life filled with the Holy Spirit is not optional for a believer — it is essential. God never intended salvation to be the end of our spiritual journey, but the beginning of a Spirit-empowered life. While salvation lays the foundation of our faith, it is the continual filling of the Holy Spirit that enables us to truly live out the Christian life with strength, purpose, and victory (Ephesians 5:18).

Smith Wigglesworth, a renowned preacher, once said that the importance of being filled with the Holy Spirit cannot be overstated. Scripture echoes this truth. In Acts 19:2, we see that receiving the Holy Spirit is a distinct experience that follows believing in Christ. Speaking in other tongues is not the sign of salvation itself; rather, it is the initial outward evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:18).

Ephesians 5:18 commands us to “be filled with the Spirit,” but the original meaning implies a continuous, repeated, ongoing action. Being filled is not a one-time event — it is a lifestyle of repeatedly coming to God for renewal and empowerment.

Jesus explained how this works in John 7:37–39. We must come to Him with spiritual thirst, believe in Him with faith, and “drink” — meaning we actively receive the Holy Spirit. God freely gives this incredible gift, but we must personally desire, approach, and receive Him. And when we are filled, something supernatural happens: rivers of living water flow from within us. These rivers not only refresh our own lives but also become a source of blessing and life for others.

The Spirit-filled life is God’s only design for Christian living. Without the Holy Spirit’s power, we cannot fulfill God’s purpose, especially in these last days when He desires to move mightily through His people. Every believer is called to come to Him daily with thirst, faith, and openness — to receive again and again — allowing the Holy Spirit to flow freely through their lives.

God’s glory and the advancement of His Kingdom depend on believers who are continually filled. This is not a spiritual luxury — it is the very heartbeat of Christian living.
